Projects

King’s Lynn Civic Society projects help protect, promote and celebrate our town’s rich heritage and influence the way our town evolves to meet challenges and change.

We maintain a regular survey of empty shops in town to monitor the health of our retail streets.

‘Every Street Name Tells a Story’ is our project that refurbished old street signs and commissioned news ones, giving current and historic street names. It was launched with an information booklet, a book for children and an original play about the derivation of street names.

The well-used public benches in Saturday Market Place, celebrating famous King’s Lynn women Fanny Burney and Margery Kempe, were commissioned by the Civic Society. The benches offer fine views of the Town Hall and Minster.

We respond to planning consultations – such as the proposal for Lynn to have a Town Council – and share ideas for improving the town and bringing empty and derelict buildings back into use.

King’s Lynn Civic Society received an Award for Innovative Campaigning from Civic Voice – the national organisation for Civic Societies – in 2019.
