Loke Road (north) No. 21 Bentinck pub

North Lynn


Red brick under hipped slate roof, white brick dressings linking stone lintels over windows. Original sash windows except in association with 2-storey canted bay right of central door, altered on ground floor, where raised on low stone-topped plinth. Ground-floor bay larger with slate roof receding to smaller upper bay whose casement windows look later than the sashes. Windows on ground floor shallow arched glazing between bold flat angled pilasters at angles. Chimney on east wall with band of white bricks halfway up; single projecting course of bricks just below stepped 5-course moulding at top. On 1886 OS one of only a few buildings north of the Loke.

Focal point of Victorian development and fairly well preserved and still in use. Sadly the brickwork was painted white in 2012.
