Former main road north from centre of Gaywood to Hunstanton and Fakenham until the northern Lynn bypass opened. In medieval times this was the main road from Lynn to Walsingham and known as Walsingham Waie in 1487. Later it was one of two turnpike roads in Gaywood (the other being Gayton Road). The lower part was developed as suburban ‘commuter’ residential area of in the early 1900s as Lynn expanded and then again in the 1930s right up to the junction with Grimston Road (Wootton Gap). This was a difficult road from which to make a selection and it may be that there are some deserving omissions; this might be a road to look at again in the future with expert guidance. This is a road where every house has its place and one eyesore could ruin the whole.
