Formerly the carriage drive to Gaywood Hall bordered on the east by a large green with trees and on the west by post-1935 houses. This may also reflect the line of a much older north-south track, continuous with Field Road on the other side of Gayton Road and diverted to accommodate the Bishop’s palace on the Hall site in medieval times. A right of way here was closed under the 1810 Enclosure Award.
